• Captain Obvious Reveal: Is Renge "secretly" White Robin? Double-subverted. White Robin's mask falls off, and the face underneath isn't Renge's. A bit later we learn that it actually was Renge; the face underneath was another mask.
• Crosses the Line Twice: Kate, an elementary-school-aged girl, wears a skimpy bikini-like outfit into battle. This is either hilarious and cute or kinda creepy, depending on who you ask. To add a different perspective, one reviewer mentioned that she looks like a kid playing dress-up in her mom's closet, but it's still rather eyebrow-raising at first.
• Cult Classic: World Conquest Zvezda Plot wasn't very popular when it was airing and many people either dropped the show early or thought it was So Okay, It's Average. However the fans the show did have were very expressive of their love towards it which has led it to gain a more positive reputation over the past few years.
• Les Yay:
  • Itsuka towards Kate.
  • Miki has devoted her entire life to protecting Renge as White Robin from even the slightest harm and preserving her idealism, she joined White Light because of Renge, insisted that Renge be the one of the pair to get the officer commission, and her discover of Renge's feelings for "Dva " and subsequent fight with Asuta plays out like a particularly bitter Love Triangle.
  • Natasha has a bit towards Roboko when she thought the poor dear was killed and later when she was found unscathed.
• Quirky Work: The first episode has the JSDF fight a giant... squid... thing which upon being destroyed turn into small, hopping ball... things. And apparently it was controlled by a toy which belonged to the leader of some magical organization who happens a little girl who plans to Take Over the World. And that's just the first episode...
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The mayor of Tokyo is taking over all of Japan through military force... and it's only the finale that is actually part of the plot. It would be an Ass Pull but it was actually briefly mentioned in another episode.
