YMMV / Witse

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The series features harmonica music played by Toots Thielemans, which sets the tone for the series quite well. In addition, the series title music, found here, is quite an awesome piece as well.
  • It Was His Sled: During the pilot episode, Witse is given choice of several places where he can become commissioner. Anyone who has heard of the series, however, already knows where he'll be stationed.
  • Jerkass Woobie: John Mariman from the two-parter De val fits this trope perfectly. He's a sleazy lawyer who went to prison for hosting orgies with minors for his clients. His arrest, however, caused his wife to kill herself (he found her corpse) and in jail, he sustained a permanent injury to his leg, which makes him limp. After his release from jail, John became a bit down on his luck and nowadays, he just spends his days in his local pub, drinking away his misery. Oh yeah, and he's the episode's killer and The Man Behind the Man as well. All of this together makes you hate him as a character, but feel sorry for him at the same time. It doesn't help that the clients and bartender of his local pub consider him The Woobie as well.
  • Narrowed It Down to the Guy I Recognize: While not as prevalent as Beneath Suspicion, a fairly large amount of episodes made use of this trope. Examples include:
    • The killer of the episode "Lieve oudjes" was played by Marc van Eeghem, best known for his roles in Terug naar Oosterdonk and Windkracht 10 at the time and later on for his roles in De Parelvissers, Katarakt and In Vlaamse Velden.
    • The killer of the episode "Meubelland Paulus" was played by Jakob Beks, who's best known for playing Bernard T. Waterslaeghers on FC De Kampioenen, as well as his roles on Sedes & Belli and Bex & Blanche.
    • The actress who played the killer in the episode Inch' Allah, Katrien de Ruysscher, became one in hindsight due to her role as doctor Judith van Santen in the popular soap Thuis.
    • The killer of the episode "Diabolo" was played by Rikkert van Dijck, best known for his roles in Thuis, Uit het leven gegrepen: Kaat & Co and (later on) Wolven.
    • The killer of the episode "De val" was played by Frank Focketyn, best known for his role of Guido Pallemans in Het Eiland and the various characters he played in In de Gloria. Most people also remember him as the father in the "Vaneigens" sketches on Man Bijt Hond.
    • The killer of the episode "Innige band" was played by Werner de Smedt, best known for playing Nick Debbaut on Flikken, Lucas Neefs on Zone stad and Freddy Verstuyft in the movie The Alzheimer's Case, as well as for his roles on Louis Louise and Wittekerke.
    • The killer of the episode "Het meisje" was played by Wim Danckaert, who's best known for playing commissioner Kris Geysen on Flikken, as well as DCI Sylvain Geens on Thuis.
    • The killer of the episode "In de fout" was played by Ron Cornet, who's best known as colonel Vandesijpe on FC De Kampioenen and his long standing role on Wittekerke, as well as for De Kotmadam and Het Park.
    • The killer of the episode "Jelle" was played by Janine Bischops, who's best known for her role of Jenny Verbeeck on Thuis, as well as for her roles on Het pleintje, Het Park and, later on, Familie.
    • While the episode Achter de waarheid had more than one killer, all of them were among the most well known actors of the cast:
      • The killer of the first victim was played by Koen van Impe, known for his roles on Aspe, Kiekens and Salamander
      • The killer of the second victim was played by Rebecca Huys, who's best known for playing Merel Vanneste on Flikken
      • The killer of the third victim was played by Dirk van Dijk, who's best known for playing Michel Drets on Het Eiland, as well as for his roles on De Ridder and Eigen Kweek'.
    • The person responsible for the killings in the episode "De informant" was played by Lucas van den Eynde, best known for his stage acting, as well as for his roles on Windkracht 10, In de gloria, Het Eiland, Van vlees en bloed, Salamander, Aspe and De Ridder.
    • The killer of the episode "Onder de toren" was played by Mathijs Scheepers, who's best known for his roles on Kinderen van Dewindt, De smaak van De Keyser, Albert II and Salamander.
    • The killer of the episode "Vrije slag" was played by Warre Borgmans, best known for his roles on Windkracht 10, Kulderzipken and Salamander.
    • The killer of the episode "Overdosis" was played by Peter Rouffaer, who's best known as doctor Geert Smeekens from Thuis, as well as for his role on Wittekerke.
    • The killer of the episode "Verstikt" was played by Axel Daeseleire, who's best known for playing Ben Vanneste on Flikken and Bart Dewindt on Kinderen van Dewindt.
    • The killer of the episode "Breekpunt" was played by Maarten Bosmans, who's best known for playing Bruno Soetaert on Flikken, as well as for his roles on Kiekens and Familie.
    • The killer of the episode "In de vlucht" was played by Ben van Ostade, who, for the older viewer, is best known for his roles on Alpha Papa Tango, Heterdaad and Wittekerke, while to the younger viewer he's probably best known for playing Steven Lambrechts on Thuis.
    • The killer of the episode "Siser Morphine" was played by Marilou Mermans, who, aside from her roles on Fabian van Fallada, Wij, heren van Zichem, Lili & Marleen and Familie, was also known for her recurring role of Bieke Adriaensen on Witse.note  This makes this example one of the few times this trope is used for an actress who, among other roles, was known as a recurring character in earlier seasons of the same show.
