YMMV / Why the Hell Are You Here, Teacher!?

Go To

  • Adorkable: Beneath their profession as teachers, most of them are actually socially awkward, clumsy, and have some childish tendencies, which makes them all the more endearing to their respective students... most of the time.
  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Takashi Takahashi. Many readers felt his arc suffered because he was hard to relate to and root for, due to his young age, was the total opposite of Rin Suzuki, and his brother/sister relationship with Hikari. Others enjoyed him being the sane foil to Hikari's silly antics.
    • Hikari Hazakura. Her detractors find her to be obnoxiously loud and nosy, but is also considered a favorite because she's a Jerk with a Heart of Gold with Tan Lines. Her Odd Friendship with Tachibana either redeems her or makes her a hindrance to her progress with Tanaka.
    • Francesca Homura. One of the more interesting teachers because her dynamic is not like the teachers before her, or one of the worst because she's the youngest and is a heavy tsundere with a lot more Tsun than Dere.
    • Tadashi Nakamura. Like Takashi, he's disliked for being the least masculine student in the cast, with the story constantly reminding readers about his Teeny Weenie and that he's always mistaken for a girl. Making matters worse is that he's also the central protagonist of three volumes when the others have only received one and make minor appearances in others. He's not entirely hated, as some readers do think he's a decent enough protagonist with a good share of comic relief.
  • Nightmare Fuel: Kana Kojima sometimes is this, especially in the early chapters when she gets angry.
  • Tough Act to Follow: The first teacher, Kana Kojima, is perhaps the most popular in the series, enough that later arcs are often compared unfavorably to hers. Many readers want to see her and Satou become the central focus of the story again, or would have preferred that instead of introducing a new couple for each volume, the story should have focused entirely on her evolving relationship with Satou, although the pair of Tanaka and Tachibana, of the original four pairs, seems to be almost as highly regarded.
