YMMV / Urusei Yatsura The Final Chapter

Go To

  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Carla is supposed to be a sympathetic character, being essentially an "echo" of Lum as a beautiful girl who is deeply in love with a boy who refuses to admit that he loves her back — worse, Rupa's pushing her aside for an Arranged Marriage to a girl he's never even met, when he and Carla have known each other since childhood. The problem is that Carla's characterization combines some of the worst aspects of the tsundere and the yandere. As Rupa points out, when he said he loved her as a kid, he only did so because she was holding him at gunpoint. And since this seems to have been before Rupa learned about his engagement to Lum, this just makes Carla look like a dangerously unstable lunatic, an impression furthered by how Carla's primary modes of interaction seen in the movie basically consist of demanding Rupa marry her and then trying to kill him when he refuses. Though Rupa does admit to being in love with Carla in the end, for many fans, it's hard to understand why.
