YMMV / Unicorn Of War Winx Club Rewrite Series

Go To

  • Arc Fatigue: Some feel this with the plot point of the Winx besides Bloom and Roxy losing their memories. It happened early on and causes a lot of drama but as of yet, it shows no sign of stopping.
  • Broken Base:
    • The 3D models used initially for the season 6 rewrite were pretty divisive. Some people like the 3D models and think they look perfectly fine, while others feel as if the 3D models look incredibly ugly.
    • Roxy and Stormy getting a Race Lift with their skin colors changing to black in the season 6 rewrite. Some people don't mind this, as it brings some more diversity into the cast. Others however think that changing Roxy and Stormy's skin color changes was pointless and that it felt like Thomas was forcing diversity into the series, and that, if Thomas wanted to add diversity into the series, he should have created new characters instead of changing the skin tones of older ones.
      • Thomas recently discussed this for Roxy's case, stating that part of his reasons for Roxy's color change was to help distinguish her design from the other Winx, pointing out Roxy's similarities in appearance to Tecna.
    • The same thing could be said with how the Season 6 rewrite handles its LGBT representation. The rewrite often makes existing characters (Such as Bloom, Stella, Musa, Riven, etc) gay, bisexual, or nonbinary. Supporters of these changes enjoy the representation added to the cast, meanwhile, detractors however, while by no means against adding representation into the series, feel as if changing existing characters' sexualities doesn't fit them and that, like with the detractors of Roxy and Stormy's race changes, felt as if Thomas should have created new characters instead of changing old ones.
    • The way Aisha earned her Ardorix. Either her earning of the transformation felt rushed or it made perfect sense and was paced fine.
    • The rewrite's treatment of Bloom. Bloom goes through far more suffering in these rewrites, she loses Sky (her boyfriend) in season 5 and spends the whole season trying to get his memories back. She ultimately gives up her chance to do so and has to accept that the Sky she knew is gone. She also loses any contact she has with her sister Daphne due to Daphne having fulfilled her purpose. Season 6 makes this even worse. Bloom starts the season fresh off of losing her boyfriend, but now she has to deal with her friends' memories getting wiped and potentially losing them too. And to add the cherry on top of all of this, Sky, the man Bloom lost, is with another woman now. Not just any woman, but Diaspro, and many What the Hell, Hero? moments thrown into this season as well. Many have speculated that this is meant to counteract the favoritism Bloom got in canon, and some people like this for that reason. However, others think that Thomas is making Bloom suffer a little too much and that he's going too far in the opposite direction to the point that it borders on torture.
    • Are the rewrites too Darker and Edgier? Some people like the more mature tone of the rewrites due to the canonical seasons being Lighter and Softer and making the series grow up with its audience, unlike the canon seasons, while others think that Thomas is making the show a bit too mature and adult for a show aimed towards kids.
  • Character Rerailment: The rewrite does this for all of the characters.
  • Hype Backlash: Due to all the praise these rewrites have received, there are some people who are more willing to point out issues with the rewrites, whether it would be in the comment sections of the episodes or on other sites like Reddit for example.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: Many people were not happy that the Ship Teasing with Icy and Tritannus was still in the season 5 rewrite. However, Thomas did say he kept it in because he wanted to explore the relationship more.
  • Jerkass Woobie:
    • Tritannus in the season 5 rewrite. Although he does turn into a villain, the rewrite states how he always felt like he had to bow down to his sister, and a later episode in the season 5 rewrite has a scene where he says how he was always treated like a monster.
    • Flora's mother Alyssa can come across as this. While she may come across as an Abusive Parent to Flora at times, you can't help but feel sympathy for her when she experienced trauma after losing an unborn child named Rose due to miscarriagenote  and in another flashback, Miele, who was only a few months old, gets sick and Alyssa cries in her crib.
    • Icy is often hinted to be this multiple times in the rewrite, due to the Foreshadowing of her eventual backstory that could possibly be shown in the inevitable Season 8 rewrite.
  • The Woobie:
    • Bloom of all characters fits into this.
      • In the season 5 rewrite, Sky's memory gets wiped and she tries desperately to get it back, but even when the dark magic from his mind is cleared, Sky's memory is still lost. Even worse, when Bloom gets the opportunity to wish for Sky's memory back, she instead uses it to bring Nabu back for Aisha, meaning that Sky's memories are permanently gone for good. By the end of the rewrite she ends up breaking up with Sky, so she essentially completely lost her boyfriend.
      • Season 6 ramps this up dramatically. At the start of the season, it's made clear that Bloom has been feeling lonely without the other Winx, and ever since the end of season 5 where Sky permanently lost his memories she had a great fear that she would end up losing everyone else in her life too...and that fear ends up coming true in a sense when all of the other Winx lose their memories too, just a few months after Sky permanently lost his.
      • Bloom could also fall into Jerkass Woobie territory for some due to her invading her friend's privacy by going to their memories.
    • Narcissa was vilified in stories that Solarians shared of her and had been called a witch just because of her having moon magic instead of sun magic.
  • Woobie Species: The Selenians. Their kingdom got conquered and eradicated with its people having to either go to Earth or different planets in the magical universe and as Narcissa's story implies, were vilified and discriminated against for their moon powers.
