YMMV / Unico: Black Cloud and White Feather

Go To

  • Awesome Music:
    • While not as depressing as the theme song to Ringing Bell, the theme song heard during the opening and closing credits is beautifully performed but also very melancholy. This theme song alongside Chirin no Suzu is one of Sanrio Animation's most beautifully performed songs.
    • The music heard as Unico is destroying power plants and getting rid of polluted water is also very upbeat and fast-paced.
  • Heartwarming Moments:
    • Witnessing Garappachi's children nibbling on their father's tail, Unico starts feeling sorry for them and decides to give them a small piece of cake by using his magic. He even sheds a Single Tear as he summons the cake while smiling.
    • When Unico quickly notices Chico's coughing has gotten worse. He decides to transform into his "Mighty Unicorn" form (due to Unico and Chico's strong love with each other) and takes her for a ride to healthier locations upon the clouds to help her breathing.
    • After noticing Chico's illness getting worse, Unico quickly begins drilling underground to release polluted water and destroying power plants in order for the town to be safe and healthier to live in.
    • The West Wind allowing Unico to visit Chico's home and give her magical flowers so she will get fully healthy.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • During the short's opening, when the lyric "Unico, share your sorrow with me" is heard, a rain drop appears in the foreground representing Unico's loneliness and sadness.
    • As Unico is flying back to Chico's home, The West Wind temporarily prevents Unico from returning back to her home. When she tries taking Unico away, he loudly protests by telling her "Chico will die!" which causes her to allow Unico a few more minutes to give her a set of white flowers then return back to leave.
    • When Unico arrives at Chico's home for the final time. He gives her The West Wind's white flowers to make her fully healed while she's sleeping. When Garappachi the rat notices him leaving, Unico sadly responds by telling him "Goodbye" before she wakes up.
    • The short ends with Unico at another unknown location, alone. He is heard sadly yelling to make sure if anybody is there besides himself as he's crying. Not helping the scene is the reprise of the short's theme song, although it does end on a hopeful note.
      Unico, along again
      Your silhouette walking away
      Where are you going now?
      Leaving happiness behind
When the sun rises tomorrow, a burning light will shine on you.
      That light will, possibly
      Unico, when tomorrow, comes
Unico, the wind will change color.
Unico, you will surely find happiness
      Unico, when tomorrow comes
Unico, the wind will change color.
Unico, the flower of love will bloom for you.
      Unico, you'll surely find happiness
  • The Woobie: Unico, you just want to give the poor guy a hug after seeing him crying during the short's ending. The fact that this is the only time the character was voiced by an child isn't helping.
