YMMV / Two Chips and a Miss

Go To

  • Awesome Music: The short has a pretty awesome musical finale, beginning with Clarice's ballad "My Destiny" before Chip turns into a jaunty hot jazz number when he starts jamming on the piano with her, followed by Chip and Dale's musical showdown on piano and bass, respectively, and ending with the three of them playing and singing three-part harmony to "Little Girl." Especially impressive when you consider that everyone involved, including the musicians, had to perform all of this at half-speed to make the tempo sound right when it was sped up.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Clarice, who's not only cute but whose presence gives Chip and Dale something to do rather than antagonize other Disney characters. Many Disney fans have expressed disappointment that this is her only short. More recently, Clarice has made more of a presence in the Disney Parks (notably in Japan and France), and appears in the new Chip 'n' Dale: Park Life shorts on Disney+.note
  • Fan Nickname: Fans of Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers who consider this short to be canon refer to it as "Episode 0."
  • Fanon: The short is considered by fans of Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers to be canon, as it bears a closer resemblance to the series than any of the duo's previous shorts.
    • For one, the character are more anthropomorphized than they'd previously been. They wear clothes, live in a fully developed Mouse World, speak intelligible English, are literate and perform more human activities like playing musical instruments.
    • More importantly, this is the only short in which none of the other classic Disney characters like Donald or Pluto appear, effectively placing the chipmunks in their own separate continuity.
  • Germans Love David Hasselhoff: The short is very popular in Japan and France, to the point that Clarice has become a prominent character at Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disney Resort.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: The breathy, flirtatious voice in which Chip and Dale mentally read Clarice's name on her letter sounds... familiar.
    Chip n' Dale: Hello, Clarice.
  • Ho Yay: Chip and Dale share an Accidental Kiss at the end and seem more amused by it than disgusted.
