YMMV / Trinity War

  • Captain Obvious Reveal: Near the end of the final issue, the heroes are shocked when they finally find out what has caused Superman to fall ill, but many readers had figured out that he had been poisoned with Kryptonite long before the revelation, specifically citing how the fact Superman's skin is tinted green is an obvious hint to his condition.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Pandora's backstory involves her being cursed by the Council of Wizards after she accidentally released the Seven Deadly Sins upon the world, supposedly corrupting mankind in the process. Her own series would later reveal that said monsters can't influence humanity's behaviour, they are just emotional parasites who are drawn to negative emotions. In other words, the Sins only served to highlight humans' natural flaws to the Council of Wizards, who condemned Pandora to a lifetime of suffering even though she did absolutely nothing wrong.
  • I Knew It!: Superman's condition, supposedly caused by Pandora's Box, looks oddly similar to Supergirl's Kryptonite poisoning in H'el on Earth — it's ultimately discovered by Firestorm that said condition has nothing to do with the Box; Superman was poisoned with Kryptonite, and the poisoner made it seem like it was the Box's fault.
  • Nausea Fuel:
    • When Superman gets mysteriously sick in part 2, it shows. His pale skin, sore eyes, and visible veins aren't easy to look at.
    • In part 6, when Grid separates Cyborg's cybernetics from what was left of his organic body. Made even worse when earlier during the Throne of Atlantis arc, Vic gave up his only remaining lung for an upgrade.
  • Padding: A major criticism directed at Trinity War is that only a fraction of the 11 issues that make up the event significantly affect the central plotline. The Trinity of Sin and Constantine issues are long interludes that disrupt the narrative's pace; and while parts 4 and 5 had great action, the battles in question don't do much to advance the story.
  • So Okay, It's Average: General consensus is that, while the murder mystery is intriguing and the fight scenes between the three Justice League factions are exciting, the event as a whole is unfulfilling and unable to stand on its own, since it's too padded and only serves to set up Forever Evil (2013).
  • Unexpected Character: The finale ends with the Crime Syndicate of Earth 3 entering Earth-0.
