YMMV / Tiny Toons Looniversity

Go To

  • And You Thought It Would Fail: When the first teasers were announced, people were pretty skeptical about the direction the series was going, with many being disappointed with many of the changes such making Buster and Babs related, and the animation not impressing them. When it released, the show became well-liked as a decent reboot.
  • Awesome Art: The animation in this series is very detailed and fluid (looking like a mix between the TMS Entertainment-animated episodes of the original Tiny Toon Adventures and Looney Tunes Cartoons), and the characters are very expressive, especially for a series animated in Adobe Animate. While there are some moments of tweening like in the latter series, the animation quality otherwise more than makes up for it.
  • Awesome Music:
    • The theme song of the show, absolutely. It takes the original opening theme and updates it with lyrics that still fit perfectly with this adaptation, with respectful changes. The instrumentation is strong, and the visuals perfectly match the lively, wacky energy of the show.
    • The live orchestra of this reboot being played as background music throughout the show sounds as lively and vibrant as ever.
    • The unexpected 80's-inspired song at the end of the first episode is very catchy and perfectly shows off both this incarnation's unique character quirks and the amazing vocals of the new voice cast.
  • Even Better Sequel: In a inversion of what happened in the nineties, some people have actually come to consider Tiny Toons Looniversity to be a big improvement over the 2020 Animaniacs reboot, since it avoids many of the complaints people had about the latter, such as Looniversity being respectful of the predeccesor's spirit by actually having slapstick humor over Animaniacs controversially ditching it in favor of commentary and satire, bringing back all of the characters in some capacity from the beggining and keeping the cast likable. It certainly helps that it's an actual reboot rather than Animaniacs being more a revival.
  • Improved Second Attempt: One of the criticisms thrown at the original show was that it never truly took advantage of its school setting, instead veering into fantastical adventures unrelated to it. Looniversity places focus on the titular school and has most of its plots about the main cast hanging around.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • When Buster and Babs were turned into twins for this series, many fans were quick to make fun of the "implications" this brings to many scenes in the original, with "Sweet Home Alabama" jokes abound and very prevalent.
    • Buster and Babs (No Relation)Explanation
  • Moe:
    • A lot of the students in Acme Loo of course, given the show's premise, however for many Hamton and Sweetie fit the bill perfectly.
    • Fifi La Fume in this reboot is arguably more adorable in both appearance and voice than she was in the original show.
  • Rescued from the Scrappy Heap:
    • This reboot does this for Sweetie, mainly by making her a Badass Adorable nice punk-girl who is rather sweet to her friends as opposed to the sadistic jerk from the original series.
    • Merlin the Magic Mouse, one of the most hated Looney Tunes characters, actually gets a good showing here as Buster's mentor, proving himself to be both funny, entertaining and a good teacher. The Scrappy Heap Rescue even happens in-universe: Upset he didn't get Bugs as his mentor, Buster at first dismisses Merlin as boring and lame, but after a few lessons and some genuinely good mentoring from Merlin, he develops a lot of respect and admiration for the Magic Mouse. In the end he's even proud to have Merlin as his mentor.
  • Sweet Dreams Fuel: Looniversity frankly may be more sweet than the show that it’s based on. After the first few episodes the Tooney Five really hit it off with each other, being extremely close and helpful to one another while still retaining a funny, comical spirit. The show balances being witty and being wholesome and the way that all the characters interact with one another (especially Babs and Sweetie) can be just precious.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!:
    • When it was announced that Buster and Babs would be twin siblings, longtime fans of the original 1990 series did not take this change well, as one of the original series' running gags was Buster and Babs saying "No relation!" whenever they would introduce each other, and the two had often been depicted as a couple. Even Tom Ruegger, one of the writers and producers of the original series disliked this change, as his response to it was "Ummm...ew?". Likewise, fans who enjoyed shipping Buster and Babs together also weren't happy with this change.
    • Compared to the original, Babs no longer does wacky impersonations and Buster is no longer the coolheaded, laid-back type. Instead, their personalities almost feel swapped, with Babs generally being more laid back and Buster being prone to comical outbursts. For some this change wasn't all that well received.
  • Tainted by the Preview: There were many fans turned off by the announcement that Buster and Babs would be siblings in this adaptation, but after the official trailer dropped, there were a few people who found the artstyle a massive step down from the original or even the Animaniacs reboot, looking stiffer and less dynamic than that of the original show. This eventually died down over time, with many actually coming to praise the series' animation.
  • Unexpected Character:
    • Merlin the Magic Mouse, a character from the late '60s period of Looney Tunes, is set to appear in the show, much to the surprise of everyone. Another surprise was Cool Cat and the fact he has a son, known as Chillest Cat.
    • Although not as surprising as the above example, many were shocked that Fifi La Fume was allowed to stay in the reboot, even being given a decent amount of focus in the first batch of episodes, considering she is based on Pepe Le Pew, a character that is not only divisive but has since stopped making an appearance in most Looney Tunes media due to the controversy surrounding him.
    • As of the second season, it’s established that Molly, Taz's little sister from Taz-Mania, is a student. Even if, so far, she's only made silent cameos; it’s genuinely surprising that a character from Taz's spin-off would turn up in a modern project. Especially after nearly 30 years since it came to an end.
