YMMV / The Witch: Part 1. Subversion

  • Draco in Leather Pants: Perhaps an expected outcome for Nobleman, since he's portrayed by a very good-looking actor and has a way greater presence than the rest of the villains. The fact that the character shared Ja-Yoon's Dark and Troubled Past of being tortured and experimented on for the entirety of his childhood certainly helps in making viewers overlook the fact that in the present he's become a sadistic psychopath who won't hesitate to kill and endanger innocent civilians and seems to take pleasure in tormenting Ja-Yoon when he still thinks she doesn't remember anything and is just scared.
  • He's Just Hiding: Many fans were heartbroken after Nobleman was seemingly killed by Ja-Yoon at the end of the movie. Naturally, since the scene was shot ambiguously enough, there were many theories that he was just passed out last time the audience get to see him and would probably return in the sequel.
  • It Was His Sled: Due to just how well executed and acted it is, the reveal that Ja-Yoon Out-Gambitted everyone by faking her amnesia and ends the plot by curb-stomping all of her tormentors is probably the most well-known thing about the film.
  • He Really Can Act:
    • Kim Da-mi's performance as Ja-Yoon is the highlight of the film for many fans, as Kim effortlessly portrays both a scared girl running away from her past and the cunning sociopath who fooled everybody into underestimating her flawlessly.
    • On a lesser scale but still pretty close is Choi Woo-shik as Nobleman. Fans quickly grew attached to the charisma and dangerous charm Choi gave the role, with it undoubtedly contributing to Nobleman's Draco In Leatherpants - status described above.
