YMMV / The Troy Saga

Go To

  • Complete Monster: Agamemnon, King of Mycenae, is the main perpetrator of The Trojan War and the leader of the invading forces. Having failed to take control of Troy through a coup, Agamemnon rallies the kings of Greece under a false pretence, ravages the lands allied to Troy, and finally lays siege to the golden city itself. Agamemnon's cruel, murderous, and treacherous actions during the siege manage to disgust even his own allies. Utterly unrepentant, Agamemnon causes thousands of deaths and untold suffering in pursuit of personal glory, riches, and power.
  • Genius Bonus: Gershom picking that as the name he goes by in his exile is this for those who know their Book of Exodus as that is also the name of Moses' son.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: Odysseus being one of the founders of the Seven Hills settlement is rather amusing considering how the Romans in Real Life villainized Odysseus (called Ulysses in Latin) for his role in getting Troy destroyed with the Trojan Horse note .
  • One-Scene Wonder: Of all the characters who have counterparts in The Trojan Cycle, Ajax probably gets hit the hardest with Demoted to Extra. He's doesn't appear in person until the last few chapters of the final book in the series. That doesn't stop him however from making one hell of an impression in the two big appearances he makes. When he first appears, he jumps over the makeshift barricade that Kalliades and Banokles made to slow the progression of the Mykene army and personally fights off both of them so well he actually begins to force them back. They seemingly kill him but a few chapters later, he turns up again and faces down Banokles when he's the last Trojan soldier left in the city. He bests Banokles, who had been holding up the Mykene army all morning, but gives the disgraced Mykene soldier some Villain Respect and refuses to kill him despite Agamemnon's direct orders.
  • The Woobie:
    • Halysia is probably the biggest example in the entire series. Married to a cruel king when she was only barely out of her teenage years that gives birth a son she holds dear. Only to see said son burned alive and tossed over a cliff by Mykene pirates while she's raped by the captain of said pirates.
    • Kassandra. Afflicted with her Cassandra Truth powers at the age of three that makes it so that not only is she aware of when she's going to die but also the rest of her family, friends, and entire kingdom. It's also implied her powers are gradually killing her. She's also very self-aware how her facilitating between ominous predictions, half-intelligible gibberish, and then seeming perfectly normal makes her considered a Creepy Child and a Black Sheep of her family.
