YMMV / The Surprising Adventures of Baron Munchausen

Go To

  • Accidental Innuendo: In one story, the Baron "called out lustily to be released from a situation in which [he] was now almost suffocated". Meaning, he was asking some fishers to cut a giant fish's belly open carefully because he was trapped inside.
  • Applicability: Commented by the author in the second volume's preface when he tells that reading political messages in his stories is up to his readers.
Rudolf Erich Raspe: "I do not say that the Baron, in the following stories, means a satire on any political matters whatever. No; but if the reader understands them so, I cannot help it."
  • Awesome Ego: The Baron tells tall tales because he is certain that people will love his outrageous stories depicting him as an awesome hero. Given their continued popularity since the late eighteenth century, he is absolutely right.
  • Signature Scene: Munchausen riding a flying cannonball is often used as a cover image because whoever has heard of the character knows that scene.
