YMMV / The Spellbook

  • Base-Breaking Character:
    • Matt. Some fans consider him to be a viable supporting character and well developed in his own right. Others consider him underdeveloped and a wasted character due to his extreme lack of screen time to work with.
    • Kennedy is also often unfairly compared to Matthew Ryder of the Tale of the Valkyrie series, due to them sharing the same basic role (Spouse to Meg). Both Ander Arias and Jerry Peet (Author of Tale of the Valkyrie) consider this unjust criticism as the two characters have vastly different origins, storylines, and roles in their stories. Kennedy is a support character and comic foil, while Ryder is the titular protagonist.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: It's a Family Guy fanfic, the humor is made entirely out of this.
  • Character Rerailment: The author tried to do this to Lois and Brian, which were returned to their roots of Only Sane Man and were wiped out of most of the jerkassery they sport in the later seasons.
  • Ensemble Darkhorse: Miriam and her sisters are made of this.
  • Evil Is Sexy: The three witches.
  • It's Not Supposed to Win Oscars: many people said that this story lacks depth and complexity. Even if that's true, the author stated that the story is only attempting to be funny.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: Often against characters the author dislikes:
    • In a cutaway gag, a bunch of gay men call out Jasper for essentially being a walking stereotype.
    • Stewie accidentally blows Herbert's house, effectively killing him. Stewie himself lampshades that he won't be missed (in fact, many reviewers commented were happy they were that he was dead).
