Awesome Music: The film has a very powerful, haunting score, especially during the monster attack scenes.
Creepy Awesome: While opinions on the film itself are mixed, nearly everyone who's seen the film agrees that Moder herself is awesome, and her incredibly creative, unsettling design makes for a very memorable and disturbing monster.
Harsher in Hindsight: The original tagline "They Should Have Gone to Vegas" was altered to "They Should Have Gone to Ibiza" in light of the October 1st 2017 Las Vegas shooting.
Jerkass Woobie: Dom. He complained constantly and was a jerk to Luke, but his leg was getting gangrene and he freaked out over Hutch’s death.
So Okay, It's Average: The movie itself has garnered a really mixed reception, though it leans more towards the positive side, with both critics and audiences evenly split on its quality. Generally, praise is given to the film's score, atmosphere, acting and the design of the monster Moder, but it is also frequently derided for being a bit of a Cliché Storm and bringing little new to the table in terms of being "another scary monster in the woods movie".
They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The story probably would've meant more if Luke managed to save his friends, or at the very least Dom from Moder and the cultists. As it stands his arc is incomplete as he was unable to save his other friends after failing to help Rob.
The Woobie: Luke, especially by the end of the film. Poor Luke.
The Novel
Complete Monster: Loki is the leader of a band of Black Metal delinquents who hope to bring about the end of the world through their music and cruelty. Boastful of how evil and wicked he is, Loki is a Serial Killer who has claimed nine lives in the past, all fueled by bigotry and prejudice. Having found the land of Moder in the isolated Swedish forest, Loki works with his band to reawaken Moder and unleash her onto travelers in the area, getting innocents gored and butchered. Capturing the hiker Luke, Loki forces him to witness one of his friend's disemboweled bodies before tormenting and terrorizing him, Loki planning to sacrifice Luke to Moder in the hopes she will unleash more Old Gods onto the Earth and bring the apocalypse Loki has dreamt of.
