YMMV / The Man in the Iron Mask (1939)

• Narm: In the 1979 film, during the night fight between the Four Musketeers and the Royal guards sent to reclaim Maria Theresa. When Porthos trips an opponent, an inappropriate cartoon sound effect comes out of nowhere. This doesn’t happen anywhere else in the film.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: With D’Artagnan getting much of the spotlight, the Three Musketeers Athos, Porthos, and Aramis are just there for presence and fights. This is somewhat remedied in the 1979 version: Porthos and Aramis get more to do. Athos is now the one with little. Unlike those two, he is denied a death scene.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: The Queen Mother warns Louis about the bond between twins: harming Philippe will harm himself. However, the film drops this plot point, with neither brother suffering any feedback from the other getting harmed.
