YMMV / The Little Mole

Go To

  • Awesome Art: The animation is simple yet gorgeous, espicially how Mole digs up on the ground.
  • Designated Hero: The mole himself in several episodes. He' s usually just a little animal wondering about the world, but sometimes he likes to cause trouble too.
    • One episode starts with the mole shooting pebbles at an old man and later he messes up his garden.
    • In another episode the mole steals a melon from a vendor. But also he and his friends abuse the vendor who rightly ran after them. Not only that but the episode ends with the critters laughing at the man after his cart gets destroyed.
    • And then the mole literally kills two rodents (he sends his robot to call a cat, who then grabs the rodents, they never appear again in later episodes) in the episode "The mole and the robot". Okay they stole his robot but it's quite an overkill from him.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: One of the characters is a little blue hedgehog. Decades later, Sonic the Hedgehog would hit the markets on June 23, 1991.
  • Memetic Mutation: "Chamomila ?" - the Running Gag of Krtek asking foreign characters whether a particular plant he's holding at the moment is the chamomila that he so desperately seeks in order to help cure his friend, the Little Mouse. Those scenes come across all the more funnier due to Krtek always posing the question in his polite, cutely child-like voice.
  • Nightmare Fuel: From the mole's point of view, the scene in "Mole and the TV" where the mole is confronted with an advertisement for a mole-killing chemical. The ad itself shows the chemical at work (fortunately not the direct effect on the mole, but it still shows that it's pretty lethal to him). The eerie synth music doesn't help either. At least the unintelligible speech of the advertiser works as a Nightmare Retardant.
  • They Changed It, Now It Sucks!!: People usually prefer the longer, more varied episodes before "The Mole and the Clock". After that episode (which is the longest at 38 minutes), the series kept the simpler art style and the parts became shorter again, with more generic plots. Also, the mole no longer ends up in different places (expect a tropical beach in one episode) and everything takes place in the forest. The changed art style, with the mole being drawn with a thicker body, and the simplified soundtrack were also criticised.
