YMMV / The Laws of Eternity

Go To

  • Anvilicious: It's a Happy Science film, so what do you expect?
    • Isaac Newton, Thomas Edison, Albert Einstein, and the founders of Toyota and Panasonic (along with the founders of Japan's other major companies) were all angels and demigods sent from Heaven.
    • Atheists only refuse to believe in religion because they're unhappy in their lives and are being manipulated by demons to lead humanity astray.
    • The founder of Happy Science and his wife are the reincarnations of Hermes and Aphrodite and are destined to be together.
  • Glurge: This movie follows the rhetoric and plots of a generic Happy Science movie but also claims that geniuses, scientists, and even corporation founders were angels and demigods sent from Heaven to improve the Earth. Conversely, it portrays atheist philosophers and dictators (e. g. Nietzsche and Hitler) as not being actually humans, but demons sent from Hell to lead mankind astray from God, but can be defeated if everyone relies on El Cantare. Moreover, it also depicts that disabled people won't be anymore once they enter the highest tiers of Heaven, as the infamous "I'm Helen Keller" scene can attest.
  • Just Here for Godzilla: If you're watching it and you're not a Happy Science believer, then you're probably just there for the Hermes robot versus Hitler's demonic elephant fight that occurs two-thirds of the way through.
  • Memetic Mutation: Both the Helen Keller scene and the "Hermes Mecha vs. Hitler's Demonic Elephant" scenes became infamous among Mother's Basement fans due to how ridiculous and over-the-top they are.
  • Narm:
    • Nietzsche and Hitler... er, Niches and Hisler, are depicted as demonic beings set out to lead humans astray from God. While this in and of itself is a nonsensical idea, it's outmatched by the former acting like a Generic Doomsday Villain shouting "God is dead!" as if gloating and the latter summoning his demonic elephant, Bihimoss, to crush Ryuta.
    • Ryuta's response to Niches' catchphrase, "The Truth never dies!" is meant to showcase Ryuta's triumphant resolve on saving the world from demons, but it ends up making him look like a silly fanatic.
    • Later on, when Bihimoss spits fire at the Hermes mecha controlled by Ryuta following Hisler giving the former a demonic power boost, Yuko walks next to Ryuta and makes a T-pose to create a shield for the mecha.
  • Signature Scene: The scene where Yuko meets a seeing and hearing Helen Keller at the Bodhisattva Realm is remembered for how ridiculous and out-of-nowhere it is, especially for those introduced to this film through Mother's Basement.
