- First Installment Wins: Of the "trilogy", this one is the one remembered by most people, thanks in no small part to the fact that it was the installment adapted for the movie.
- Harsher in Hindsight: The throwaway joke of the last member of the Poghril tribe dying of cholesterol poisoning after being rained on with hundreds of fried eggs from the Infinite Improbability Drive. Douglas Adams died of a heart attack.
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- Upon first hearing Vogons described to him, Arthur says "I wish I had a daughter so I could forbid her from marrying one." Cue Mostly Harmless... And then, much later on, And Another Thing....
- The world is ruled by two white mice, is it?
- Woolseyism: A rare English to English version. Arguably a joke was made funnier in the American edition of Life, the Universe, and Everything, when an awkward conversation Arthur has about an actor who got an award for "The Most Gratuitous Use of the Word 'Fuck'" got changed to "The Most Gratuitous Use of the Word 'Belgium'" which changed the joke from something weirdly crass to surreal.
