- Values Dissonance: The novel isn't very fair or nice when it comes to adulterous women, as pretty much none of them has redeeming values or is sympathized with. The portrait of the catamite acolytes of Syria is also full of disdain and ridicule which wouldn't be tolerated in recent times.
