- Ho Yay: Grem and Venn seem to hug a lot, and Hrald & Yazkool are joined at the hip... until Hrald wanders off with Ngarbo "like old friends"...
- Strangled by the Red String: In-universe example. Winter is supposed to marry either Argul or Venn. Argul's charm that tells him if a girl is "the one" for him was supposed to only respond to her.
- Out of universe, Venn and Dengwi. Even if you consider their relationship up to that point to be a case of Belligerent Sexual Tension, the reveal is still pretty much dropped out of the sky. The fact that Dengwi is Claidi's half-sister just makes it more questionable.
- Tear Jerker: One occurs for Claidi and the readers, as she dwells on her ruined wedding.
