* ValuesDissonance: Many, many critics pointed out how the film feels like an import from TheNineties, home of movies like ''[[Film/TheNet1995 The Net]]'' that were all about fear-mongering on how the Internet was going to destroy the world. This is especially clear when we're expected to see the Circle installing cameras everywhere as evil in and of itself, even when there's no indication that there's any kind of plan behind them.
** Secretly installing cameras absolutely everywhere with blatant and ''intentional'' disregard of the right for privacy is very much a reprehensive (and criminal) act that a lot of people would indeed take offense to, regardless of whether there's a plan behind it or not. Just look what happened to Mae's parents when they were trying to spend some quality time together, only to find the whole damn world watching them. Worse, they ''knew'' they had these cameras in their house. [[ParanoiaFuel Now image something like this happening to you completely out of the blue]]. People have committed suicide for less.

* NightmareFuel: The entire film is this to folks who feel like Facebook, Google and Co. are already intruding way too much into people's private lives, and who try to stay as far away from them as they can for this very reason. Especially the scene where Mae is confronted by two passive-aggressive coworkers over things like not having a social network account, not having taken part in some of the company's off-hours events, and ''having left the company grounds for private reasons'', is extremely uncomfortable to watch, and it only gets worse from there.
