YMMV / The Cars

  • Ear Worm: More than a dozen of them.
  • Epic Riff: Many, on either guitar or keyboards.
  • Face of the Band: Ric, mostly because he wrote most of their songs, and also because of the videos. Ben comes in a close second courtesy of being a close friend of Ocasek and singing lead on half of the songs.
  • Fan Disservice: "You Are the Girl" - scantily-clad alien babes with various facial and body deformities.
  • Fandom Berserk Button: It's easy to tell who's a fan and who isn't by how they pronounce Ric's last name  "Ocasek" rhymes with "classic," not "basic." Also, don't spell his first name with a K.
  • First Installment Wins: The Cars is routinely considered the band's best album.
  • Ho Yay: "Ta Ta Wayo Wayo (1977 Demo)," which swaps the line "the girls are so pretty" for "the boys are so pretty" in the final verse.
  • Multiple Demographic Appeal: The band had enough catchy hooks and melodies for fans of mainstream rock as well as plenty of weirdness for punk/new wave fans.
  • Tear Jerker: For Live Aid, a TV crew from CBC showed a video of a hungry child in Africa trying to stand up, and they set it to "Drive". You may never listen to the song the same way again.
