YMMV / The Brute Man

Go To

  • Narm: When Cliff pleads to be allowed to get his papers out of a jewelry box before Hal takes it, Hal verbally shrugs with a flat and immediate "Okay" that doesn't fit the mood of a multi-count murderer confronting the people who got him disfigured at all.
  • Special Effect Failure: When Cliff shoots at the Creeper, the moving camera can't hide that he's not actually aiming at him. Furthermore, he's aiming past the Creeper's left thigh, while the Creeper grabs for his right and is consistently shown to be injured in that thigh.
  • The Un-Twist: The film leads the viewer to believe that the Creeper will redeem himself. There is a suggestion that he wouldn't have killed Joan if she hadn't responded with rejection and repulsion to his disfigured face, something that is a sore spot for him. After that, the Creeper meets Helen, who doesn't reject him and whom he comes to care for so much that he works to finance her eye surgery even though that carries the risk that she'll reject him after all. His efforts to collect the money even seem to sway him from his initial path of revenge, although he does keep killing when it conveniences him. Then, the Creeper learns that Helen has betrayed him. Devastated and dangerous, he goes over to her house and is ambushed by the police. His part in the film ends with him being arrested.
