- Alternate Character Interpretation: Oh boy, the Man. Who is he? Villain, victim, hero? Well-Intentioned Extremist or Satan himself? A Trickster Mentor or just The Trickster?
- They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Sister Carmel wants to hear God's voice again, and the Man tells her that she needs to conceive a child. Since nuns make a vow to be celibate, this goes against her beliefs. She decides to have sex with a painter she met, and then happily tells the Man that she can hear God's voice again. However, there was a great opportunity for a tragic ending via Loophole Abuse in that she didn't specify what she wanted to hear God saying. She could have heard God's voice, but it was angry because she had broken her religious vows and sinned, adding another example to the lesson of Be Careful What You Wish For.
