YMMV / The Amityville Curse

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Is Frank the priest's son, or is it the Thin Boy, who is now possessing Frank?
  • Narm: Mrs. Moriarty banging her head on an overhead light (and seemingly not even noticing) while trying to get out of the Creepy Basement.
  • The Scrappy: Marvin is a hoity-toity and condescending ass who spends the entire film being snide and rolling his eyes at everything, including his supposed friends; he also treats his wife, Debbie, with nothing but condescension and exasperation during all of their interactions, with the only time he ever expresses any kind of affection for her being in the moments immediately preceding his death, as if the filmmakers realized that he was devoid of any sympathetic qualities, so they gave him that one small bit right before he gets murdered in an attempt to make his death feel tragic instead of cathartic.
  • Sequelitis: The film is often regarded as being the weakest entry in the official Amityville series, with a lot reviewers complaining that it felt dull and cheap, with unengaging (if not outright obnoxious) characters and a very obvious mystery.
  • Squick:
    • Abigail getting a jagged piece of glass stuck in her hand, and the later shot of the wound becoming infested with maggots.
    • The burnt skin on the back of Frank's hand getting violently scrapped off by Debbie slamming a door on it.
  • The Un Twist: The villain's identity is incredibly obvious, even before the telltale shot of his arm during Mrs. Moriarty's death.
