YMMV / The Adam Project

Go To

  • Friendly Fandoms:
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: In this film, Walker Scobell plays a bullied, snarky kid with a Disappeared Dad who takes his mother for granted. In Percy Jackson and the Olympians (2023), he plays a bullied, snarky kid with a Disappeared Dad who absolutely does NOT take his mother for granted.
  • Narm: Maya's accidental death due to being shot by her future self's bullet comes off as being this, due to how hilariously contrived, ridiculous and anti climatic it is.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Adam's mother receives little focus in the film and outside of a brief scene where the two talked in a bar, she barely interacts with future Adam (especially not to the extent his father did) and never realizes that he is her son grown up like his father did when he first saw him. She also essentially disappears and has no further involvement in the film's events after the bar conversation, only appearing in one scene set in 2018 and one of the last scenes in the film afterwards. Also, we never see how she reacts to the disappearance of her son.
    • Laura. She was stuck in 2018, then joined back up with Adam in 2022, and finally pulled off a Heroic Sacrifice so he could get back to 2018…and when he does, neither he nor his younger self think to try and locate her, fresh off of being marooned, even though her smarts and combat skills would certainly have been helpful in the climax.
  • Tear Jerker:
    • Near the ending where when Adam's father is playing catch with the two Adams and as soon as he goes for the ball he didn't catch, the Adams have gone back to their own timestreams leaving the father alone as the puppy comes out.
