* BrokenBase:
** Upon the first episode's airing, many complained about Dela taking up too much screentime, annoyed by it, considering he's probably the farthest from a typical Creator/KyotoAnimation character. For some, this has been enough to consider dropping the series. As the series progresses, Dera's character is worked into the story considerably better.[[spoiler:Indeed. from episode 7 onwards, he may be ''the'' most important supporting character]]
** Then, there is the ending, a fitting way to close out a SliceOfLife story, or cheap cop out that deliberately avoids even ''trying'' to resolve anything [[ShaggyDogStory and renders the entire series pointless.]] But, as Dela points out, things are changing, little by little.
* DieForOurShip: Midori is receiving ''a lot of this'' for interfering with Mochizou/Tamako as of episode 5. By extension, Mochizou is this for Midori/Tamako shippers.
* {{Earworm}}: The ending, "Neguse".
* EnsembleDarkhorse: Some fan circles see Kanna as "best girl" in the show and call her ungodly awesome, since she builds things instinctively due to being the daughter of a carpenter, carries a hammer around with command, speaks in a cool monotone, has epic lines, and trolls Dera.
* HeartwarmingInHindsight: [[spoiler: The movie reveals Tamako's obsession with mochi to stem from when she was a small child being comforted with 'mochi faces' made by her father and Mochizou in the time when her mother passed away. She even states that she's become the lovable and easygoing girl she is now in an attempt to bring happiness to everyone in the same way mochi does. Though it's implied that she's actually trying to be the person she thinks her mother was (a kind woman loved by everyone) as a way of honoring her.]]
* HetIsEw:
** Inverted, Tamako x Mochizou is a popular pairing, while Midori is the receiving most of the DieForOurShip.
** Can be played straight. Some fans prefer Tamako x Midori and with that said, Mochizou instead gets the DieForOurShip treatment.
* LesYay: Shiori watched Tamako for some time before finally becoming friends with her.
* LGBTFanbase: Gay and bisexual women symphatize a lot with Midori. The series is also liked for having a trans woman character whose gender isn't given any particular note.
* {{Moe}}: It's a [=KyoAni=] show so it's to be expected, but many people have started thinking the same of the men as well as the girls. You'd be hard pressed to find a fan of the show that doesn't find Mochizou endearing or cute in some way.
* SequelDisplacement: Many people have seen ''Tamako Love Story'' without even hearing of the anime.
* ShipToShipCombat: Midori/Tamako vs. Mochizou/Tamako. There are also people out there that ship Mochizou/Midori
