YMMV / Superman and Spider-Man

Go To

  • Magnificent Bastard: Dr. Victor Von Doom is as megalomaniacal and brilliant as ever. Doom allies with Parasite and uses the supervillain as a pawn in his scheme to destroy the Earth's fuel and electrical supply so that Doom's powerful energy source will enable him to institute his own, utopian rule. Doom uses both the confines of the law and stealthy red herrings to regularly outwit Superman and Spider-Man, nearly killing the duo. Though he ends the comic with a heavy dose of cowardice, Doom will almost certainly return with all his gravitas restored.
  • Sequelitis: Although it is not considered a bad story by any means, "Superman and Spider-Man" is less known and beloved than its predecessor "Superman vs. the Amazing Spider-Man".
  • Unintentional Period Piece: The story reflects not only the hairstyles and fashion of the early 80's, but also the status quo of both franchises in 1982: Superman is working as a newscaster for Morgan Edge, keeps his original backstory and maximum power level, and Kryptonian characters like Supergirl and Krypto are still around but deemphasized. Spider-Man is going to college and failing to find a new girlfriend after getting then-recently dumped by Mary Jane Watson. And Wonder Woman is operating in New York.
