• Base-Breaking Character: Are Alex and Leah's presence in the story a worthy choice with lots of great potential, or are they just Replacement Scrappies to Daisy and Aqua? Depends on who you ask.
• Fan Nickname: KazamaFam2006 refers to Alpha Pandora as CyberAlex.
• Moral Event Horizon: If Bowser hadn't already crossed this line when he killed Peach's parents, in front of a child no less, he certainly did now by attacking the Mushroom Kingdom during a festival and lifting Peach's Castle into space, with intent on conquering the universe. Oh, and give him a Kick the Dog moment with Alex just to rub it in.
• Pandering to the Base:
  • The author fixed various instances of Wangst by toning them down to more reasonable levels after receiving backlash from a fan.
  • That same fan also pointed out moments where Luigi and Peach were given character hiccups. The former was not doing much to protect the ones he loves in favor of Alex taking the spotlight, despite Luigi's character development in the last story, while the latter had a hiccup to a lesser extent where Alex helped her escape Bowser instead of having her escape on her own accord. The author made modifications to both of those instances. Alex still offers his life to Bowser, but Luigi denies it and offers himself instead, while Peach grabs the two kids and escapes herself.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: One review argued that Aqua and Daisy should've been in Alex and Leah's place, as it would've been a good opportunity to continue their character arcs from the last story. They even said that had Aqua become Alpha Pandora, the scene with "The Reason You Suck" Speech could've been way more impactful due to a deeper connection between her and Mario.
• Unexpected Character: The fact that the "Yoshi's Unexpected Appearance" mission was expanded to include planets resembling Aqua, Daisy, and Wario was quite the surprise. Fitting considering the original game's mission name.
