YMMV / Stuart Hardy

Go To

  • Bias Steamroller:
    • As stated in Creator Thumbprint and Author Appeal, he tends to enjoy morbid dark topics. This colours over on how he likes to have Doctor Who explore darker topics unlike how the new series tends to be more light hearted.
  • Broken Base:
    • His marathon on the Eight Doctor Big Finish audio dramas, mainly how he praises it. Some people felt it was very heartwarming, while others felt like Stu is kissing up the early run of the dramas due to his nostalgia goggles.
  • Ending Fatigue: His Eighth Doctor Big Finish Audios took about a year due to how some of the later stories weren't released yet. Thankfully once he was caught up, Stu was about to take his time doing later installments in a steady pace.
  • Fandom Rivalry: With Mr TARDIS Reviews as they both do videos and reviews on Doctor Who, but they have many different opinions on what is going on with the series.
    • For one thing, Tardis is more mainstream whilst Stu is more underground (As of 2023, Mr Tardis has over 35,000 YouTube subscribers while Stu has 25,000).
    • Tardis' channel is mainly on the subject of Doctor Who (though Tardis did movie reviews on a separate channel, but it hasn't been updated since 2019), but Hardy does more than just Doctor Who.
    • The other is how their opinions are especially with certain aspects on Doctor Who.
      • When Mr Tardis talked about the Series 8 finale, he didn't like how it dealt with the "Don't Cremate Me" controversy and feels that is a topic too dark for the show (this is due to how his partner/wife reacted harshly that it affected her), whilst Hardy disagrees and wasn't affected by it (though this is because he is into dark stuff in the first place).
      • When the Chibnall era started, Mr. Tardis praised the era for being different from the lackluster Moffat era, Stu was in the opposite as he felt like Chibnall's run was as bad and even stated he missed Moffat's writing.
  • Growing the Beard: In his earlier He Who Moans videos he comes across as a biased classic/Big Finish Who fan, constantly comparing New Who unfavourably and coming across as unpleasable. However as he went on his critiques became more refined & constructive on the writing & content of the episodes & has made positive reviews on New Who episodes such as Heaven Sent. As well as that the sarcastic humour & Microsoft paint drawings became more prominent giving his series a unique style.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • Back when the animated version of Power of the Daleks was out, Stu was hoping they would do "Fury from the Deep". That was soon made, but unfortunately he wasn't pleased by it as he thinks the animation doesn't match that he thought it would be. Also some of his reviews would often point out to viewers on having high expectations on responding "What do you expect?", which kinda makes some viewers shove those words to him once the animated serial was released.
    • His retrospect on Ace from Doctor Who compares the Seventh and Ace relationship to Walter White and Jessie Pinkman. This ends up being harsher both within Doctor Who and Stuart later on:
      • The centenary special reveals that Seven and Ace had a fallout sometime before his regeneration, similar to both Walter and Jessie's relationship was in Breaking Bad. Though thankfully Ace didn't suffer the same end as Jessie and both her and mentor reconcile.
      • Hardy would later review Breaking Bad five years later and states that he thought the show isn't as groundbreaking as everyone says it is.
  • He Panned It, Now He Sucks!:
    • His original retrospective video on the 10th Doctor got this reaction due to him calling it his least favourite era. Though that video has been deleted years ago & is likely doesn't hold the same opinion.
    • His review of Breaking Bad has him saying that he didn't like the show's later episodes when Gustav and the Neo Nazis started showing up as he felt the show went too bleak by that point. Which is ironic considering he's into a lot of bleak stuff himself.
  • More Popular Spin-Off: His "He Who Moans" series tends to be the most popular videos he posted on his channel.
