  • Demonic Spiders: Hogs are extremely aggressive and extremely durable. It’s all too common to absentmindedly turn around just in time to see one barreling towards you, giving you little time to react. They do a significant amount of damage too, so trying to fight one off without a ranged weapon is practically a death sentence. Even then, it's very difficult to get a clean kill on one. Throwing spears is impractical, as neither the crude or refined ones do a whole lot of damage to them. Stabbing them is marginally more effective, but the fact that you’ll have to get close to them to do so means that you’re going to take a lot of hits. It’s also impossible to sneak up on them, as they can hurt you from any angle, even behind them.
  • Goddamned Bats:
    • Want to mine clay? Hope you're ready to fight off tiger sharks. Constantly.
    • Even if you turn passive mode on, certain animals can still poison you if you touch them. You can (and probably will) be swimming and looking for resources when you suddenly get poisoned because you unwittingly crossed paths with a sea snake or lion fish. This is made especially worse by the fact that antidotes are notoriously difficult to craft due to the scarcity of a key ingredient.
  • Good Bad Bugs: One game update added the ability to make piles of certain supplies from the quick crafting menu, which then work like containers for that specific item. If you make a pile of coconut drinks, adding an empty coconut drink to the pile will reset it to full, effectively giving you an infinite supply and all but eliminating the threat of dehydration (provided you don't drink them too fast and get diarrhea).
  • Nightmare Fuel: The sharks are very frightening, especially the Megalodon. The same goes for the giant Moray eel boss, which resembles a Sea Monster.
    • Playing the entire game is a nightmare if you have Thalassophobia once you realize you're going to need to travel to other islands.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: Almost all reviewers agree that the locations are positively gorgeous.
  • That One Achievement: There is an achievement for building every single thing in the crafting menu. Finding the resources for this is incredibly time-consuming, and there are many items that you'd never build if not for the achievement. For example, you need to build a brick floor, AND a corrugated floor, AND a plank floor, AND a wood (stick) floor for your raft, when normally you'd pick one and stick with it.
