YMMV / Steven Universe S5E20 "What's Your Problem?"

• Alternative Character Interpretation: Amethyst's blasé attitude towards Ruby running off in the beginning of the episode. Was she displaying Lack of Empathy / Selective Obliviousness? Was she downplaying the situation so that the others would leave Ruby alone and give her some space? Or was she downplaying it so Steven wouldn't worry himself over Ruby?^note This interpretation is supported by Amethyst's actions primarily being attempts to cheer up Steven and trying to not pile other people's problems on him.
• Catharsis Factor: For years many fans have been wanting to tell Steven that he doesn't need to deal with other people's problems and he is not responsible for other people's (especially his mom's) actions, so Amethyst finally telling him both of these things received much rejoicing.
• Harsher in Hindsight: Amethyst has to tell Steven point-blank that he has to take care of himself and not shoulder other people's problems. Unfortunately he seems to not have understood this lesson in Future.
• Salvaged Story: A common criticism of the Crystal Gems is their tendency to let their own issues fall on Steven's shoulders, with varying degrees of intent. Here, Amethyst refuses to do so, and admits that the Crystal Gems were wrong to burden Steven in the past. Steven calls her the most mature Crystal Gem for it.
