YMMV / Steven Universe S4E19 "Room for Ruby"

Go To

  • Fanfic Fuel: Garnet shows up at the end of the episode, holding two balloons; the "Welcome to the Party!" balloon and Garnet's comment after she pops it implies that there was at least one future where Navy truly joined them.
  • Fridge Brilliance: The button that creates a shield around the pilot but not around anyone else, along with opening the rear hatch. Every Ruby thus seen on screen (save for the one in Garnet) is a Blood Knight to one degree or another, and the Gems don't need air to survive. This might have been a way to ensure that either a) the pilot didn't get out and try to beat up the enemy alongside her sisters, b) the pilot stayed in place in case of space deployments (invading hostile space stations), or c) ensuring that the pilot stayed in place to guide the ship, even in rough maneuvers (the Rubies themselves lampshaded their expendability earlier, so having someone able to bring back a valuable spaceship even if the other gems didn't come back might be valuable).
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Peridot says that she doesn't use a cool name she came out for the barn, because Lapis doesn't like it. In Raising the Barn, it appears that she's been holding much to herself in order to avoid upsetting her barnmate, to the point of suppressing her own needs.
This is our... Gem Cave. Lapis hates it when I call it that. So I don't.
  • Memetic Mutation: Navy's face when she betrays Steven instantly became this.
  • Obvious Judas: Those familiar with Peridot and Lapis' arcs knew that it was Too Good to Be True that a Homeworld Gem would want to switch sides at the drop of a hat.
  • Unintentionally Sympathetic: Navy. We're supposed to see her as a monster for betraying and exploiting Steven's trust, as well as throwing him, Lapis, and Peridot off the Ruby ship, but considering the Crystal Gems have tricked her and her crew three times even though she never tried to hurt anyone and blasted them into space, Navy's actions, while still needlessly cruel, can be seen as understandable.
  • The Un-Twist: Some instantly figured that Navy wouldn't be reformed by the end of the episode. Whether or not you didn't mind this or thought that the episode became more tedious as a result varies from viewer to viewer.
