YMMV / Star Wars: The High Republic Adventures (2021)

Go To

  • Esoteric Happy Ending: The final issue ends with Lula's friends becoming Jedi Knights. While this seems like a bright note to end on within the context of The High Republic Adventures, but within the context of the greater High Republic storyline, readers who have already read either Trail of Shadows or Midnight Horizon (both also written by Daniel Jose Older, but aimed at older readers than Star Wars Adventures target demographic) may find it very bittersweet knowing that Starlight Beacon falls not long after the knighting ceremony, with Lula and Farzala being unaccounted for and Torban Buck possibly dying against the Nameless after the fall. The 2023 Free Comic Book Day issue would go into further detail about the fall of Starlight Beacon from Lula's perspective, ending with her potentially dying, turning into a case of Happy Ending Override.
  • Funny Moments:
    • Issue #6 has Farzala and Qort teaming up with the crew of the Vessel. Qort becomes best friends with Geode in just one short indecipherable conversation.
    • Issue #6 has Geode making an utter fool out of Jabba's goons with his Offscreen Teleportation, freaking out the one who takes control of the Vessel's cockpit when he sees a giant slab of rock suddenly show up beside him when he's not looking.
    • Lula is apparently bad enough of a cook that she somehow burned water while trying to brew tea. Becomes a Brick Joke later, when the younglings and padawans pester Buck and Sy with questions including "How do you burn water?".
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: “Mralisola” is popular among Zeen and Lula shippers.
  • Rainbow Lens: Zeen's story of being forced to hide her Force-sensitivity out of fear of being persecuted by the people she grew up with and then finding a new family in the Jedi Order is similar to that of a closeted LGBT person growing up in a highly conservative community before finding people who would accept them for who they are (incidentally, Zeen is also a lesbian). Her speech to Krix in the final issue about no longer needing to be "lesser to make [her peers] feel comfortable" is comparable to finally coming out and calling their folks out.
  • Ugly Cute: Qort is an alien child that wears a skull for a mask and doesn't speak Basic. The Takodana arc reveals that not only has he been wearing that skull since he was a baby, Vonduun Crab skulls are essentially Security Blankets for his species as children. This has not only made Qort more endearing, this has also invited comparisons to Cubone or King.
