YMMV / Star Trek Voyager S 4 E 13 Message In A Bottle

Go To

  • Continuity Lock-Out:
    • Voyager finally re-establishes contact with Starfleet circa mid-Season 6 of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, which was smack dab in the middle of the Dominion War storyline. Anyone not following Deep Space Nine in addition to Voyager will ironically be as lost as Voyager itself.
    • This also counts as an in-story example for the characters, too. Since Voyager has been marooned on the other side of the Galaxy for over 3 years at this point, they obviously have had no way of knowing what's been happening back home in the Alpha Quadrant. Thus, the Doctor has no idea who or what the Dominion is, or why the Federation would be at war with them.
  • Fanfic Fuel: Needless to say, the revelation about the Doctor's "additional subroutine," not to mention his ability to download it into any other hologram that wants it.
  • Harsher in Hindsight:
    • The presence of guest star Andy Dick, who would later go on to tank his career after several instances of sexual assault, drug abuse, and vehicular damage, particularly with the EMH-2's eager desire to be granted the Doctor's "additional subroutine."
    • Star Trek: Picard would show that the Romulans have a severe distrust of artificial intelligences, with Word of God describing the term "Romulan cyberneticist" as being akin to "Nazi doctor". Thus, Rekar and Nevala's threats against the Doctor during his interrogation come off as much more ominous.
  • Ho Yay: The Doctor implies he now has a penis, whereupon the Mark Two asks him to download it into his database.
