YMMV / Star Trek: The Next Generation S5 E6 "The Game"

• Accidental Innuendo:
  • We get Troi and Crusher discussing something that Riker picked up on his latest trip to Risa (a sex-tourist hotspot), before it's revealed they were actually talking about the titular game. Considering the infectious and addictive nature of that game though...
  • Additionally, the entire plot, including the fact that the game stimulates the brain's pleasure centers, makes the plot of this episode align perfectly with a genre of erotic fiction centered on mind control.
• Hilarious in Hindsight: Wesley is the only one who manages to resist the sway of the evil video game long enough to save the day. Wil Wheaton would eventually become famous as an avid gamer.
• Retroactive Recognition: Young Ashley Judd as Wesley's crush, Ensign Robin Lefler.
• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: Did you notice how close these aliens came to taking over not only the Enterprise but Starfleet Academy as well? Possibly all of Starfleet? And all of this could've potentially been achieved with something as seemingly innocuous as a video game trend? The Klingons and the Romulans have literal doomsday weapons, and yet they never got this close to achieving galactic domination. Who are these Ktarians, and what was their plan once they took over Starfleet? They could have become one of the greatest threats in the galaxy with their Mind Control games! Give these guys some more screentime!
