• Jerkass Woobie: Kai Winn hits this point as opposed to just being a Jerkass. Kira spells out for Sisko that Winn spent her entire life in services to the Prophets, and as she is rewarded for her services by being named Kai, Sisko — an outsider with no knowledge or belief in Bajoran religion — becomes the Emissary, eclipsing Winn and forcing her to effectively share her authority. Even Kira admits she feels a little sorry for Winn. Then later when the Prophet possesses Kira, Winn is the only one who recognizes its words from Bajoran prophecy and desperately calls out to it and offers herself for its service, and it doesn't even so much as look at her.
