YMMV / Sound of Drop

Go To

  • Les Yay: Almost all the major characters are female and can develop emotional connections to each other.
    • At the end of the "main" routes (-Himeno- and -Princess of Drop-) Mayumi even says "I love you!" to Himeno when convincing her to leave the aquarium.
    • In the endings where they are alive, Sayo and Miku are always close, and continue to go to the same music clubs together.
  • Narm: While the aquarium is really creepy, the fact that most of the main antagonists are the ghosts of fish can feel pretty silly at times.
  • Squick: In two of the bad ends (The Tragedy of Helplessness and Misguided) Kenji goes crazy and grabs Mayumi. In both of these bad ends, she fails to either get away or snap him out of it.
    • In "Misguided" Kenji pulls Mayumi close to him by the legs and bites her upper thigh (likely close to her femoral artery, as she bleeds out quickly) but the description of what's happening from Mayumi's point of view leads to this. At one point she says "Blood runs down [her] butt". The fact that Mayumi is 14 years old and Kenji is 22 only highlights how uncomfortable the scene is.
    • In "The Tragedy of Helplessness" he grabs her legs and wrenches them open, painfully. He then says something along the lines of her "smelling" like two other girls, Reiko or Miki before deciding it doesn't matter and killing her. It's very uncomfortable. Similar to the above, the ages of the characters only make it worse.
  • Values Dissonance: Western readers might find The Director angrily pointing out that Rieko is getting old and should find a husband soon like a pretty weird thing to shout during an argument. In Japan, women are usually expected to quit their job after getting married, so him railing on that was actually the first sign he wanted her gone from the company.
