- Broken Base: Would the game have saved the Sega Saturn if it wasn't cancelled? Many felt the Saturn would have benefitted heavily from a major Sonic title, while others felt the Saturn would have been doomed either way due to many other factors and that X-treme would not have done much besides provide a brief boost in sales. Given the game's cancellation, we may never know the answer.
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Despite having been scrapped during development (as she is not present in any of the later marketing or the final story draft), Tiara has garnered a bit of a following amongst the fandom, many of which would love to see her and her father, Gazebo, be realized in the games or the comics, despite Ian Flynn stating that the two will never appear in the latter due to unspecified legal issues.
- Fan-Preferred Cut Content: Whenever or not it would've been good is a matter of debate for many. Regardless, many wish to see it released in some form, to experience What Could Have Been.
- Harsher in Hindsight: The trailer implies that Mario will all be forgotten thanks to this game, when in real life, the opposite happened. Not only would Mario become bigger than ever thanks to Super Mario 64 helping codify the Video Game 3D platform genre (something Sega wanted X-treme to do) but X-Treme’s cancellation meant that it was Sonic himself who was thought to fall into that near obscurity during the Saturn days, with no new major Sonic games made for that console, to the point of Sonic Team allegedly “getting letters on who is Sonic” around that time. And that’s not even going into how Crash Bandicoot would eventually come and temporarily steal the Hedgehog’s crown as the Mascot with Attitude that’s competing with Mario during the 32-bit era of gaming, on a new competitor console to boot (However, with the release of Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, Sonic still gained popularity and is of course, still very popular to this day).
- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- Tiara's conceptual designs heavily resemble the modern redesigns for the Sonic cast introduced in Sonic Adventure, complete with longer limbs and colored eyes. Keep in mind that she and her concept designs predate the Adventure redesigns by several years.
- Tiara is a cat princess who is intended to be a Distaff Counterpart to Sonic and is also the guardian of seven powerful MacGuffins. Wait a minute! Are we describing Tiara or Blaze the Cat?
- The final story draft involves Sonic rescuing an alien species on another planet called Mips from Eggman's clutches, which is remarkably similar to a future game that also had Sonic on different planets and rescuing an alien species from Dr. Eggman.
- The game met its fate due to Development Hell and an attempt at Christmas Rushed. Ten years later, Sonic the Hedgehog (2006) would meet a poorly-received fate due to the latter.
