YMMV / Sonic Destruction

Go To

  • Alternate Character Interpretation:
    • Eggman and Gerald's relation. Both call each other dad, with neither party attempting to correct the other. The group theorizes that they might've switched bodies or that Gerald is talking to his father's spirit. Another possible explanation could be Gerald is senile and Eggman has just decided to roll with it, either because he doesn't want to waste time correcting him, or because pretending to be Gerald's father would help give him more authority over his own dad.
    • Due to Mayor Jason King defending Eggman despite being sure that he committed mass murder (which Gerald seems to call into question), some viewers concluded that maybe Sonic brutally beating him up was not totally undeserved.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Since the AI tries to set up some plot points and follow through on them, the existence of a second Shadow sticks out. He appears out of nowhere with no explanation and is never mentioned again after his scene is over. At least the second episode hints that there are multiple copies of Shadow.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Sonic beating Mayor Jason King within an inch of his life. It's already darkly funny that Sonic of all people would be so brutal, but the fact he does so to a normal, out of shape human only adds to the hilarity. Making it even funnier is how everyone else looks on and does nothing to help King, whose deservingness is at most very ambiguous.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: Knuckles is generally considered one of the funniest characters in the story, due to his tendency to show up out of nowhere, along with being the sanest of the heroes.
  • Heartwarming Moments: Reading Silver's long, rambling backstory, Red compares it to when their younger brother would "help" them look for their things when they were kids by taking them to every room the thing isn't in. Penny and Mar both find this adorable.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: To the amusement of both the team and the audience, the Shadow the Hedgehog game physically appearing and Shadow's connection to the devil being a plot point are incredibly ironic considering the crew were still in the middle of producing the Shadow episode for Real-Time Fandub at the time.
  • Narm: The AI's attempts at drama invariably fall into this due to its incoherent writing:
    • Elise's speech about returning to Earth might have been an emotional moment if the script had actually established that the story wasn't already set on Earth. As it is, the reveal causes a case of Mood Whiplash, leading to more laughs than anything else.
    • Episode 2 features what is presumably intended to be a Tear Jerker as Amy bids farewell to Sonic. Firstly, the cast can't help laughing at Holly's totally deadpan delivery of "I have to leave now". Then the entire goodbye is rendered pointless anyway because Amy keeps talking "from really far away".
