- Base-Breaking Character: Gambrelli. Either he comes off as an aloof but charming detective or an idiotic, humorless Expy. Some appreciate the Narm Charm from him, while others consider him even worse than his predecessor Clifton Sleigh.
- Bile Fascination: It's easily considered the worst of the series, and that's precisely why so many are intrigued to see it. Would you believe us when we tell you it has a meagre 6% (yes, single digits) rating on Rotten Tomatoes?
- Ensemble Dark Horse: Herbert Lom gives the role of Dreyfus just as much justice as he did in prior installments, and finally gets to play the role without being driven to the nuthouse by the end. He remains an ally to the end, even becoming Jacques' stepfather before the credits roll.
- Germans Love David Hasselhoff: Although the film was a flop everywhere else, it was a sizeable hit in Italy.
- Just Here for Godzilla: Many are only here to watch this for the animated opening credits, or for Dreyfus finally getting a happy ending.
- Narm Charm: Say what you want about it, but it's hard not to laugh at Roberto Benigni's cheesy acting.
- Replacement Scrappy: Gambrelli, even moreso than Clifton Sleigh. The only real difference between the two is that Gambrelli at least tries to emulate his father more closely, though he mostly fails at that.
- Sequelitis: Like Trail of the Pink Panther and Curse of the Pink Panther, the film was yet another failed, and this time, the absolute last, attempt of Blake Edwards to keep the franchise alive after the death of Peter Sellers. The result was the death of the franchise for thirteen years, before Steve Martin rescued it briefly with two films made between 2006 and 2009.
- Squick: Jacques generously waters Dreyfus' leg cast-full of flowers in the ET unit with a pitcher filled with an oddly brownish liquid.
