YMMV / Son of Dracula

Go To

  • Alternative Character Interpretation: Opinions differ on whether Count Alucard is supposed to genuinely be Dracula's son or simply Dracula himself. The idea that he might be Dracula's vampiric spawn (as in, a human who was turned into a vampire by Dracula) is often suggested as well, and also serves as an explanation for the character's American accent.
  • Questionable Casting: Chaney's casting as Dracula is likely the most oft-derided element of the movie.
  • Recycled Script: Vampire comes to a bustling new country, vampire preys on pretty girl, pretty girl's family and friends get advice from a wise old man about how to destroy vampire. It's basically a Setting Update for the original Dracula.
  • Visual Effects of Awesome: This was the first film to depict Dracula transforming into bats and clouds of mist onscreen, and the effects are extremely sophisticated for the time, easily outclassing many later Dracula films, at least up to 1987's The Monster Squad.
