• Designated Villain: Mr. Ridgeway is seen as the antagonist of the film but he never actively tries to sabotage John's attempts at getting the hotel up and running. The most he does is lie about why he wants the land.
• Ensemble Dark Horse
  • Jesse, for providing some of the film's biggest laughs and being played by Harry Morgan.
  • Johnny's son Richard is well-liked for having some good lines, as well as some genuinely clever insights during the film's Not Now, Kiddo moments.
• Narm: By the time John hires Wally as a ski instructor he and Chris are beginning to like each other. Though her expression when she says, "You mean he's going to live here?!" is more of an Oh, Crap! moment rather than excitement.
• The Woobie: With setback after setback through the whole movie, John becomes one all the way up until the end.
