YMMV / Shuukan Shounen Hachi

Go To

  • Anti-Climax: The end of the Twidder Battle, where Hachi's team won with a simple & fun storyboard made by Hachi. Good enough, but falls flat compared to the other big hitters such as a geoglyph manga and a school scandal.
  • Awesome Art: Since the series is less comedy-focused than My Monster Secret, the artstyle is also less goofy and the author can whip up some gorgeous splash pages full of detailed shadowings and reflections that perfectly amp the emotional power of the scenes. Case in point, this shot of Hachi and Ran.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse: It didn't take long for Handa to become a fan favorite, not only for her cute design but also her mix of shyness and snarkiness, as well as some real-life artists relating to her communication issues.
  • Fan-Preferred Couple: Hachi × Handa shippers seem to be tied with Hachi × Mikeya shippers; the former have a lot of cute awkward moments together (especially on Handa's part), while in the latter case the two characters are so obsessed with each other that it's not hard to see why people would ship them. Handa herself certainly does.
  • Harsher in Hindsight: Enma's line about how it doesn't matter how well a manga is drawn or how much effort you put into it if you can't keep the readers interested rings very sad, considering that's exactly what ended up happening to the series itself − despite a lot of readers enjoying it and finding its cancellation unfair.
  • It's the Same, Now It Sucks!: Some readers complained in the early chapters that the character designs and comedic style were too similar to Jitsu wa Watashi wa. That didn't last too long though, as by the end of volume 2 the series had found its own unique tone and pacing.
  • Memetic Mutation: If someone mentions the "best girl" of this series, there's a good chance they're talking about Mikeya.
  • Moment of Awesome: During the Twidder Battle, Hachi's team suddenly sprung up as the frontrunners by creating a geoglyph manga the size of a schoolyard.
