YMMV / Shadow of Rome

Go To

  • Broken Base: The combat sequences were almost unanimously praised, but the stealth ones got a mixed reaction, with some players complimenting the change of pace and dynamics in pursuit of a more cerebral approach, while others thought of them as boring, unnecessary filler.
  • Complete Monster: Decius Brutus, The Dragon to Antonius yet far worse, is a sadistic Roman general with a history of killing his underlings should they disappoint or disobey him. Seeking more power and feeling unappreciated, he organized a group of co-conspirators to assassinate Julius Caesar. After committing the murder, Decius then began systematically eliminating everyone else who was involved in or had knowledge of the assassination plot, including ten people at once in one instance. When the centurion Agrippa seeks revenge in the gladiatorial games against Decius for killing his mother, Decius sends several assassins to kill him—one of whom Decius kills for failing in this task. When Decius and Agrippa have their final confrontation, Decius mocks Agrippa over his mother's death and states that he only wishes he could've had "some fun" with her before she died.
  • Narm: The "Are you satisfied?" sequence. Reminds one too much of Gladiator, for one, and ends with a TMNT-esque Big DAMN, for two. Brad Simons from 4PlayerPodcast addresses both of these.
