- Hilarious in Hindsight:
- A year into the franchise and Sonic almost got official recolors.
- Sonic's recolors are yellow, red, and white. He would later gain yellow and red co-stars in SegaSonic the Hedgehog and then again in Sonic 3 & Knuckles.
- Instead of releasing this game, Sega would instead back the development of a different Falling Blocks game for the Sega System C-2 in 1992... the arcade version of Puyo Puyo, which would eventually become Sega's flagship puzzle game series.
- ...And then comes Sonic Mania, which has a Puyo Puyo-themed boss fight in the second act of Chemical Plant Zone, bringing things full circle.
- Seven years later, Sonic would have siblings again.
- It's Easy, So It Sucks!: The game's rules can appear unintuitive for a novice, but a seasoned player will soon realize there's one real goal and a single method to achieve it, luck based though it may be.
- Older Than They Think: The game is the real origin of the recurring colored sphere items that have been known to fans since the Special Stages from Sonic 3 & Knuckles, as well as the music to said stages.
- Scrappy Mechanic: You can only turn blocks clockwise and the blocks all being the same size and affected by gravity means the center of the play field will get cramped pretty quickly.
- So Okay, It's Average: Not really a lost arcade hit, but it's serviceable and it can actually be pretty fun to chase after a fast clear time. It didn't deserve to spend over two decades in limbo.
