YMMV / Saved by the Bell (2020)

  • Heartwarming Moments: In the last episode of the second season, Daisy is panicking because she feels that if the school loses the spirit games, it will mean that she wasted the whole year working towards it. Principal Toddman, who has so far been well meaning but ineffectual, calms her down and explains that nothing is ever a waste, because it all teaches you something, so even if the school loses they will all be better for it anyway. It's exactly the right thing to say to Daisy and she's visibly grateful and calmed by it.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: In show, Zack is thrown out of office as California Governor after losing a recall election in Season 2; while during roughly the same time period, real-life California Governor Gavin Newsom managed to keep his position as Governor following an unsuccessful recall attempt.
  • Ho Yay: Mac and Jamie, not unlike Mac's dad and Slater, have a fair amount. One of Mac's pranks involved getting Jamie to fall in love with him.
  • LGBT Fanbase: The inclusion of Lexi, a multifaceted transgender character, endeared the show to many LGBTQ fans, especially considering the original's lack of any visible queer or trans representation.
    • Aisha also comes out as bisexual in the second season and gets a girlfriend.
    • There's also the Ho Yay between Mac and Jamie, who are both played by fairly attractive young actors. Mac particularly seems slightly Camp Straight, and has a mind-controlling tape recording listed as "Bradley Cooper, Go Camping With Me", before telling Aisha not to read them out loud, hinting that he may be in the closetnote .
  • Memetic Mutation: In 2023, behind-the-scenes footage of a male extra in a green varsity jacket became popular on TikTok and other social media platforms owing to said extra’s rather… hammy acting. Spotted filming a crowd scene, the extra clearly enjoyed his time in the limelight a bit too much, with social media users commenting that his wide grin and corny thumbs-up gesture made the whole thing look like a 90s Mentos commercial.
  • Periphery Demographic: While the series is obviously aimed at existing Saved by the Bell fans, it has also attracted fans who never watched the original but were fans of shows like 30 Rock and Great News, which executive producer Tracey Wigfield previously worked on.
  • Special Effect Failure: Zack calling a time out and speaking to the viewer in the Season 2 finale is very obviously Mark-Paul Gosselaar standing in front of a green screen, and looks noticeably worse than any other time the series has used the gag to date.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: Compared to The New Class, which is regarded by most as by far the worst show in the franchise.
  • Tear Jerker: The season 2 premiere has a tribute to Screech with the cast gathering together at the Max to remember him. It's clear the actors are truly affected saying goodbye to Dustin Diamond.
  • What Do You Mean, It's Not for Kids?: It's a sequel/reboot of a show aimed at tweens that aired alongside Saturday morning cartoons clearly aimed towards children, but this show contains swearing along with more drug and alcohol references than the original or The College Years, frequent discussions about sexuality, and even includes parodies of the 18+ Euphoria and Showgirls.
