• Actor-Shared Background: Aisha's background as an Afro-Latina is shared by actress Alycia Pascual-Peña; the character actually being rewritten to be so after Pascual-Peña was heard speaking Spanish on set.
• The Cast Show Off: Dexter Darden gets to show off his singing as DeVante.
• The Character Died with Him: Following the death of Dustin Diamond from lung cancer in February 2021, the ending of the second season's opening episode strongly hints that Screech had died between seasons.
• Dawson Casting: Unlike the original main cast, the new main cast is subject to this, with Josie Totah being the youngest member of the cast at 19 when the series premiered whilst Mitchell Hoog, Belmont Camelli and Alycia Pascual-Peña were all in their early twenties, Haskiri Velazquez was 25 and Dexter Darden was 29.
• Hire the Critic: Dashiell Driscoll was brought on to write for the reboot after creating Zack Morris is Trash, which was critical of the original series' main character.
• In Memoriam: The episode "The Last Year Dance" includes a tribute to Dustin Diamond, who died of lung cancer earlier that year.
• Produced by Cast Member: Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, Lark Voorhies, and Tiffani Thiessen all serve as producers in addition to reprising their roles from the original series. Lark Voorhies joined them in the second season. Josie Totah also serves as producer on the show.
• Queer Character, Queer Actor:
  • Transgender actress Josie Totah plays transgender student Lexi Haddad-DeFabrizio
  • Lesbian Ariela Barer plays lesbian student Chloe.
• Role Reprise:
  • Original main characters, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, and Tiffani Thiessen all reprise their roles of Zack Morris, A.C. Slater, Jessie Spano, and Kelly Kapowski (now Kelly Morris). Lark Voorhies joins them as Lisa Turtle for a quick appearance in season one before becoming a recurring character in the next season.
  • Ed Alonzo reprises the role of magician and cafe/hangout-owner Max after last appearing in the second season of the original show.
  • Unexpectedly returning was Patrick Thomas O'Brien as Mr. Dewey, who only made five sporadic appearances during the show's run.
• Sequel Gap: The series picks up the stories of Zack, Kelly, Jessie, Lisa and Slater after a 26 year gap following the Wedding in Las Vegas TV movie.
• What Could Have Been:
  • After years of tension, Dustin Diamond had made up with his castmates and was in talks to reprise his role as Screech for Season 2, according to Mario Lopez. Sadly, he died just two weeks later.
  • Had the series continued past two seasons, Tracey Wigfield confirmed that Mac and Daisy would have gotten together and was interested in seeing more of the old plotlines revived, including returning to Malibu Sands and maybe another trip to Hawaii. Leah Remini, who played Stacey Carosi in the series' Malibu Sands arc, expressed interest in returning to the series, potentially taking over her father's role as the owner of Malibu Sands.
