  • Audience-Alienating Premise: The plot can be summarized as such: An unprofessional (female and only female) accountant gets fired for having an outburst in front of the CEO of the company, who is also controlling and stubborn, so she has to resort to wedding planning as a way to make ends meet. To get a perfect wedding for her portfolio, she has to do tasks beyond planning the weddings (talk to family members, get mementos for her clients, etc). Readers decried both the plot and the mechanics because of many factors like the abuse of the wedding themed books (this was released along with America's Most Eligible Wedding Edition, Desire & Decorum 3, Red Carpet Diaries 3), the personalities of Lauren and Justin, having to spend diamonds to fix weddings for the characters of the week, etc.
  • Base-Breaking Character: Justin Mercado quickly became one of the most controversial love interests in Choices history. His firing of Lauren in Chapter 1 after her outburst was largely seen as justified, but his subsequent behavior (inserting himself into the planning of his sister's wedding and insisting that they fire Lauren as well) was much more divisive, with some viewing it as justified given his knowledge of Lauren's temperament and his desire for his sister's wedding to be a success, but others felt he was being overly bossy and controlling, and his behavior toward Lauren was harassing and borderline misogynistic. His romance route is also divisive, with some enjoying the Slap-Slap-Kiss nature of their interactions but others finding their dynamic to be toxic and dysfunctional.
  • Broken Base: This is the first Choices book to use first person narration as opposed to second person, a decision which players have mixed feelings about. Some like it because it helps establish Lauren as her own character rather than a blank slate, and feel it makes her more memorable and interesting. Others hate it because it makes her personality more difficult to customize, making it in turn more difficult to become invested in her.
  • Fan Nickname: Bitsy has come to be nicknamed "Bitchy" for her horrible personality.
  • Memetic Mutation: Being common practice in the Choices fan community to refer to books by their initials, the fact that this book's initials are "STD" instantly made it a subject of mockery.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: The wall photos are derided for being another cash-grabbing "collection" item, with only the first one being provided for free. Inexplicably, the game doesn't even give the photo of Monica and Nora's wedding for free, despite the fact that it is the last wedding in the book and the entire book revolves around it.
  • Strangled by the Red String: Many players consider Monica and Nora to be this after the former caught the latter flirting with another woman and refused to listen to any explanation. It makes their reconciliation and subsequent wedding forced to many players.
  • Unintentionally Unsympathetic:
    • Lauren is deemed as one of the worst protagonists because of her bad temper, snappy attitude, and despite Justin's character being in constant opposition to her, the fact that she has the option to be rude, unprofessional, and closed to his opinions hurts too.
    • Many readers didn't feel compelled to help Monica and Nora reconcile because Nora was flirting with another woman while being engaged, while Monica was too stubborn to listen to any explanation, which made the players think that both of them were really looking for a way out before the wedding.
