YMMV / Sakamoto Days

Go To

  • Crazy Is Cool: Takamura—a senile old man unable to even speak coherent sentences, and is perhaps the single most dangerous man to ever walk the face of the earth. He feels less like an actual person and more like the living incarnation of bloodlust itself.
  • Friendly Fandoms:
    • With Kindergarten Wars with many people calling Rita the female Sakamoto.
    • You can also count Rurouni Kenshin and Black Cat with them all being Weekly Shonen Jump series that have a protagonist who is a former killer that made an oath to never kill again.
  • Memetic Badass:
    • Sakamoto himself, for being such a ridiculous Combat Pragmatist who can Macguyver anything into a weapon and win any encounter against any other character, ever.
    • Boiled. Fans oftentimes play up his Small Name, Big Ego as much as they can, joking that he's secretly the strongest character in the series.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "People fight"Explanation
    • Bus jackingExplanation
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Lu. She's introduced as one of the series' main characters alongside Shin and Sakamoto, but as time goes on she practically disappears from the story altogether, which many found very disappointing. To a lesser extent, many felt similarly about Heisuke but, in his case at least, he does make a return to prominence later on.
    • Apart is a serial killer sent to kill Sakamoto but, upon being defeated by Sakamoto and being treated with kindness, it seems as though they're setting up a redemption for him. He never shows up again.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: A lot of the early chapters emphasized Sakamoto needing to keep his past a secret from those around him for the sake of preserving his everyday life with his family. However as time goes on, particularly due to the series becoming far more action focused, this idea is more or less left by the wayside.
